What does this mean for us?  By raising the gas tax by $.10 a gallon our children from ages K-12 can receive over $101 million dollars a year to go towards their education program. With a minimal cost for us, this would have such a huge impact on our children’s education. The overall cost would be about $4 a month for the average driver.

In the past week, SLC MOMS held an event where we were able to get together and discuss the issues of eduction in Utah. One of the issues we discussed was funding. We came to the conclusion that by increasing our children’s education funds it can greatly influence our schools and overall our communities. This money will be able to go towards creating smaller classroom sizes, help to develop more confidence in our children, and allow us to pay our teachers what they deserve.

If our education programs receive more funding our classrooms will be able to have smaller class sizes. By hiring more teachers, this means that our students will be in less oversized and crammed classes that can cramp their learning. Currently, class sizes in Utah are among the 3rd largest in the nation. This is a problem for our children! When teachers have large classroom sizes there is less one-on-one time. With classrooms oversized student’s work is being overlooked and children are more easily being forgotten. Many struggling students can easily fall through the cracks. This creates an environment where confidence may not develop.

How can confidence affect our children and overall influence our society? I believe that by teaching our children to have a strong self esteem can help them to do better in school, perform better in activities, create better relationships, and overall decrease issues in our society. The president John F. Kennedy stated that, “Children are the world’s most valuable resource and its best hope for the future.”  This is so true! Investing in our children should be our main goal to have a better future.

Finally, if more funding is provided to our education programs they will be able to obtain better teachers. Teachers who get paid what they deserve will work harder, longer, and will be more driven to help teach our children. Our students having access to more resources in their schools will help our children to have better student outcomes. Teachers spend a majority of the day with our kids. It is crucial that we pay them what they deserve and  provide them more resources to do so. Hopefully, if we do this, our kids will receive a better education that will prepare them for a better world to come!

I know if we vote yes for question one that it can make a big difference for our kids!
